Every great guitarist have something in common. It cannot be easily spotted by the normal human, and is certainly not easy to understand. But, just like every other human being on Earth, be it dead or alive, all great people that has achieved something monumental and remarkable have common characteristics. It is these characteristics that separate the very successful to the usual citizen. What are the characteristics? Let's find out.
Characteristic 1: Daring to fail
Our society nowadays look down on failures. The society rejects failures. Why is it that the society puts little to no value on failure? Is it because failing is bad? Is there no value at all in failing? If that is the case, why is it that all great figures in the world have gone through hardship before achieving where they are? Look at Michael Jackson. His father treated him harshly since young, but he sold 109 million copies of his album, Thriller. Dare to fail, and you will succeed.
Characteristic 2: Sets goals
A great guitarist sets his own sets of goal, be it long-term or short-term. A goal is like your personal road map. It guides you every step of your way, and shows you where you should be heading next. If you are jungle trekking, would you want a local map and a functionable compass with you? Or would you rather penetrate into the deep recesses of the jungle based on your own intuition? That is why setting your own sets of goals are extremely crucial to become a great guitarist.
Characteristic 3: Never think too highly of yourself
This is one of the most important characteristic if you want to become a great guitarist, but many people forget about this characteristic. Never ever think too highly of yourself. One is never the greatest, and one is never the wisest. Always practice your guitaring skills and constantly strive to play better the next time. No one can learn all the knowledge in the world, as it is an unlimited source. Never be arrogant and practice, practice, practice.
About the Author
Reaching the final paragraph, I will reiterate on what I have written. To be a great guitarist, you must dare to fail. We learn from our mistakes, and rarely from successes. Like what Soichiro Honda, founder of Honda Motor Co. Ltd. once said:"Success is 99% failure." I can't agree more. Next, you have to set your own sets of goal. Realistic or not, that's another story. But the main point is, set your own goals. Last but not least, never be arrogant. Always practice and learn from others.
