Open Question: How can I be a better post-hardcore screamer?
Ok so I'm a teenager, i've been playing guitar with a post-hardcore/pop-punk band for about a year now. We're about to let out a 3 song EP very very soon, within 2 weeks actually. And we have a screamer, who's a desperate stalker. After recording he'll be gone forever. and he is good, but has no technique, just yells. We hate him because due to excessive jealousy i guess, of me and the other guitarist he has done nothing but try to copy our every move. I won't get into detail but its scary. Anyways, i wanted to learn how to scream, since there's nobody within 60 miles who can. I tried, and only learned "false chord" or Oli Sykes. However, what we really need is a deep like Jeremy McKinnon (A Day To Remember) growl thats powerful, and can last for at least 2 verses and a breakdown per song or more importantly an entire show, so not very straining. I sing backup also so i really don't want to destroy my voice like our screamer already has.
Thank you very much.

Open Question: Should I learn chords or tabs first to play guitar?

Have you ever thought that you would like to learn to play the guitar? A lot of people have the desire to play an instrument, expressing themselves through music and having fun; but are intimidated by the idea or sign up for lessons and become frustrated over slow and tedious progress. But there is a better, easier way how to learn the guitar and I'm going to discuss that here.
First let me share a little bit about myself. I've been playing guitar, bass, piano and keyboards for over twenty years now, I'm capable enough on each to sit in with any band, I've composed many original songs and I am self-taught on every one of those instruments.
The only formal music lessons I've ever had were for a few months in grade school orchestra. Every day for weeks and weeks I stayed late after school to take my music lessons, and after almost 3 months I still hadn't been taught how to play a single song. It had all been repetitive practice on how to hold the instrument and how to play basic scales of notes.
For a boy of about eleven years old you can't create a more boring experience, trust me. So, I quit.
But I still wanted to play music, so I talked my parents into buying me a book of easy to play guitar songs from our local music shop and I learned how to play every song in that book almost instantly. I was passionate about playing music, just not so much about playing scales over and over.
After that I continued buying books of increasingly harder songs to play, and in almost no time at all I was jamming away like a seasoned professional--and I had learned the fundamentals of my instrument and music theory along the way too.
I've used that same method for learning how to play every instrument I know now, and the results are always the same.
By starting out with an approach that focuses on just playing and having fun you get a quick sense of accomplishment and joy that encourages you to progress further. As opposed to the traditional methods of music instruction which focus first on the basic mechanics and theory--then on playing.
Both methods will lead a student who sticks with it to the same place of becoming a capable musician on his or her instrument of choice, but I believe from experience that traditional instructions tend to turn more students away early on, which is a real shame.
So, if you've ever thought that maybe you'd like to learn to play guitar but felt intimidated or became frustrated with traditional music lessons, here is how to learn the guitar quick and learn guitar easy in my opinion--purchase a good teach yourself to play type guitar course that focuses on playing easy and familiar songs right away and then progresses into more advanced topics and methods. This way you'll start out by having fun while learning guitar and seeing instant accomplishments and be more inclined to continue on.
