Open Question: Are classic cars expensive to repair?
I am thinking of getting a 1951 Studebaker Champion and though it runs now, it may not in the future. What I need to know is are repairs much more expensive when it comes to this kind of car? I'm not looking to restore the car, just make sure it can still drive from here to there. Are there alternatives to the original parts?   read more...

Resolved Question: Is it possible to fix up a car in 3 months time?
Like a classic 1969 firebird...? Needs cleaned, seat belts, probably an engine, and some other parts... Is that possible? How much do you think it would cost? And how long (realistically) would it take to get the parts and fix it up? Story: My dad bought it the very day that I was born, so when I turned 16 I was supposed to get, so it could be my car... Fifteen years later he hasn't even touched... Poor things been sitting there for over fifteen years... What a shame... Well, I know that my dad can find the parts (cause he's had loads of practice)... But I don't live in a place with lots of repair shops...   read more...

A few years ago, a buddy of mine asked me to come over and help him restore a 1967 Mustang Fastback that his father willed to him. I'd never really worked on cars before, but after spending months on that Mustang, I was hooked. My friend taught me a lot about the process of restoring vintage automobiles, and now this is what I spend most of my free time doing. In fact, I have already sold two of my completed projects for a nice profit, which has got me thinking that perhaps I can turn this hobby into a full-blown business.

In order to make a business like this work, however, I would have to find some good sources of classic car parts. Specifically, I'm looking for shops or dealerships that stock a large enough inventory of products that I can be relatively certain that I will be able to find what I need no matter what kind of vehicle I am working on.

In addition to carrying a wide selection of classic car parts for all makes and models, I would want these retailers to be able to offer competitive pricing. Having to buy things like brake discs, clutch kits, water pumps, oil filters, headers, and quarter panels is by far the greatest expense involved in automobile restoration. Since I would be buying these things on a pretty regular basis and would be a loyal customer, I would need my classic car parts dealer to have the lowest prices around.

Another great way to save money on cheap car rentals is to rent the minimum to fit your needs. This might seem obvious, but often there are extra things that you can do to save money. For example, if you are willing to limit your mileage to a very low level, you can find some really cheap car rentals. If you are visiting a city with good public transit, you can use the rental car only for trips out of town. For everything else, you can just take public transit to get there.

One of my favorite ways to get cheap car rentals is to go through a package vacation deals. Often, car rental places have deals with the airlines, hotels, and other travel industry businesses. If you are willing to do everything together as a package, you can save quite a bit of money on it. You have to be flexible, of course, and you might not be able to stay in just the place you'd expected to, but it can be worth it for hundreds of dollars of savings!
