LIMITED SCRAPPAGE EXTENSION

The UK Government has confirmed speculated reports that the vastly successful scrappage scheme will be extended.
The scheme which had been already extended and scheduled to end in February will now run for an extra month and finish at the end of March.
Lord Mandelson said this was to allow car dealers up and down the country the much needed ‘more time to prepare for and operate the exit phase of the scheme.’ The beginning of the year in the automotive industry is always a sales period and businesses booms, however this drawing to a close and the end of the scrappage approaching could mean an almost “emergency stop” reaction to new cars being bought in 2010.
Of course should the money run out though the scrappage will finish early, he added. No extra funds had been added to the scheme.
‘Against the background of the economic downturn, said Mandelson, ‘the scrappage scheme has proved a great success, driving UK car sales, protecting jobs and supporting the supply chain for car manufacture at a time when this sector needed it most.
‘If you’re considering buying a new car, you should place your order as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, because the budget is strictly limited.
This also has a two fold effect with used cars once again becoming the centre of attention for a buyers market, dealerships who specialise in used cars such as a used car supermarket will likely reap the benefits of a reduced incentive to new cars.
