Squealing
If you often hear a noise from the vicinity of your cars brakes even when you are not braking, the most common cause is worn brake pads. If you hear a louder squeal than usual whenever you apply the brakes, your brake linings have probably crystallized, and their function is possibly impaired. Again this is a scenario that requires a thorough examination at the soonest possible time.
Grinding
When you hear a grinding sound from your brakes when you hit them or even when you are simply driving, there is likely a serious problem with your brakes or with your wheels. Your car may have worn brake linings, or there may be problems with your wheels bearings. In any case, these are both potentially dangerous problems that can result in an accident, so you should seek brake repair assistance as quickly as possible.

There are many causes for such a problem, and it will definitely not solve itself no matter what the cause is. If your brakes fail to function at all, you may have to call in for a towing service. Do not drive your car to the repair shop if your brakes arent working no matter how nearby it is!

Even if your brakes appear to be functioning normally, there is no telling when they can suddenly fail, so you should take your car in for inspection immediately. If your brakes feel strange or function abnormally in any way, it may be best to call for a towing service.
