Being a Housewife is a Good Training Ground for a Management Position

It may sound ridiculous, but it's true. It is understandable that not every housewife has the capacity to be management material, but being a mother, running a household, does provide some basic skills which a manager needs.

Let's look at the requirements for a management candidate:

1. Can you work under pressure? When your two year old is screaming his head off, your eight year old is late for school, and your husband is frantic about finding his briefcase for a meeting, you have to perform in three places at once. it's called pressure.

2. Can you work with (and motivate) people? If you can get your toddler to eat vegetables, convince his teacher that he is not hyperactive, and get your husband to spend a small fortune he did not think was a good idea to begin with, it's called "working with people".

3. Can you work with money? If you can make a mortgage repayment, insurance, health insurance, school fees, car installments, utility bills, groceries and entertainment fit into a single salary, you can make any budget work.

4. Are you able to cope with long hours? If you can get up at six in the morning to help everyone get ready, run up and down like a lunatic between cleaning, shopping, after-school activities, cook supper, clean up after everyone else, and put them to bed, you can cope with any hours that may get thrown your way.

While being a housewife may not teach you about the industry you will be working in, very few things you may come across will be more demanding than being a mother and a housewife. As a housewife you learn about pressure, diplomacy, logistics, finances, and working hard. Regardless of what employers may think, it is an incredible training ground for someone who needs to take responsibility.
