Franchise Keys: Networking PDF VersionPrinter Friendly Version

Networking is a crucial aspect of business. For the franchise owner it plays multiple roles and can be viewed as two independent, though sometimes overlapping, circles. Networking is a crucial aspect of business. For the franchise owner it plays multiple roles and can be viewed as two independent, though sometimes overlapping, circles. One is comprised of the owners network within the general business community, the other is a circle enclosing the network of owners within the same franchising organization across the entirety of the franchisor's area of influence.

Both circles play an important role in the success of the owner's franchise. Franchisees should work to develop both fully and learn to utilize them fully in the course of growing their businesses. Doing so increases the owner's chance for success and for building a profitable business.

Non-franchise Peers

It is likely that you begin to build your network within the business community long before you became a franchise owner. In fact, you probably utilized your network in the starting phases of preparing to purchase your franchise. Your trusted peers within the community are a valuable source of information, from helping you find a reliable attorney, to getting practical advice about the market within your area of business.

This vast network of peers within the local business community never loses its importance to a successful businessman. As such, you should strive to keep those relationships healthy and strong, as well as endeavoring to always make new connections when possible. These are the people that you know you can go to when you find yourself up against a wall, or are having difficulty with your franchisor.

To keep those doors always open, and to help open new ones, make sure you take time to stay involved. Don't get so wrapped up in your new business that you blow off important social functions. Look for ways that your new business can be of assistance to others and keep those important relationships growing strong.

Franchise Peers

Your peers within your franchising organization are also a vital component to your success. Nobody knows your business better than those who have already established themselves in it. Those who have been around for a while have seen it all.

As such, when you find yourself in a tight spot or confronting a seemingly unsolvable dilemma in your business, these peers are the ones that can help show you the way. Chances are that anything you come up against, they've already conquered. Don't be afraid to turn to your fellow owners for advise when you find yourself stuck for a solution.

Of course, this resource of wide-ranging practical experience in the field is only there to tap into if you take the time to establish those connections in the first place. Don't wait until you have a problem to start making connections within the organization. Take the time, right from the start, to start building those bridges within your franchising community. Corporate training events and seminars are a great place to meet your fellow owners, but it is up to you to follow through and keep those connections active and strong. Investing in those relationships is and investment into the success of your business.
