Open Question: Is it weird that I don't feel bad about this? ?
(Sorry for the long story and limited details, this was just passed on to me by my mom through IM yesterday, and the story I'm giving you in the story I got.) So, I just found out that a relative of mine (Not exactly sure how we're related.. My dad's uncle I think) died (We'll call him great uncle Sid). I didn't really know him as family, but I did know him from working a the coffee shop he frequented for years. We lived in a very small town, the kind where pretty much everyone knows or has heard of everyone else. Sid was one of those sweet old men that was nice to everyone, trusted everyone, and was always friendly. He was also the kind of guy that lived a very simple life and only bought what he needed, though he secretly had a small fortune saved up. Now, he had gotten in a car accident about a year ago, and started to have a hard time getting around... from the coffee shop he'd befriended a guy, quite a bit younger, likely about 30 (we'll call him Jim)... And this guy is a fairly notorious criminal in our town... Though everyone really knew he did stuff, there was never enough evidence to put him in jail for any reasonable length of time. When Jim heard that Sid was having a hard time getting around, he went over and suggested that maybe he stay with Sid. My great uncle of course, being so trusting, said OK. Jim moved in with a couple friends. They DID help take care of him, but they were also (or believed to be) doing Sid's grocery shopping and stuff, where they would take him bank card and use that to buy stuff. They found out that he had more money than it appeared. So last week, Jim called an ambulance to say Sid had fallen, hit his head on a table, and died. Sid's daughter was of course alerted to the fact. When the ambulance came, they noticed an unusually large amount of blood, so an examination of the body was ordered. They found a couple large holes in his skull, which were more like puncture wounds and would never be caused simply by an old man falling. The cops were called to alert them of possible foul play. Now his daughter is a little OCD, and when something like that happens, she gets the house cleaned out ASAP. When my great grandma moved into a retirement home, she had sold off or thrown out everything in the entire house in one day. When the cops arrived at Sid's house (which was only a few hours after the ambulance was called), they found that my Aunt had already been in and cleaned up all the blood and dropped off all the furniture at the dump. She'd went as far as to bleach the floors, and she didn't even take pictures of it before. So the crime scene and any evidence has destroyed. And Jim and his friends are of course nowhere to be found. Now, my question is, though me and Sid weren't REALLY family, we were friends. He was such a sweet old man. I don't even feel the least bit angry about his death (I just found this out yesterday).. I've never really had anyone I know die before... I can't even force myself to feel sad. I don't feel any anger towards Jim.. The only people I have any anger towards are his daughter for being so stupid, and my mom for waiting so long to tell me. Am I like, an emotional nutcase or something? My great uncle DID just (probably) get murdered, and there will likely be very little further investigation, and the criminals will get off again. Why do I never feel sad about these types of things? Am I in shock? Is it normal that I could just accept something like that so fast? Have I been desensitized from something? Coming from such a small town... The police don't really handle situations like this properly. They're more likely to say, well, no one is asking questions so I don't need to give answers.. They're no crime scene so they likely won't even make an attempt. Even if the whole town knows what's happened, the cops likely won't even question anyone... read more...

Here are some tips to help you get what your car is worth.

If your asking price is substantial, the buyer will likely be getting a bank loan for the purchase. Consult the Kelly Blue Book(r) to establish the true fair market price. This is what the bank will be willing to loan on, so be realistic. If you are anxious for a quick sale, be willing to negotiate down a bit. Of course, if the buyer is willing to pay cash, recognize the advantages of a cash sale and reciprocate with a better price for a cash deal. Selling a car can turn into a lengthy and frustrating process when potential buyers are turned down by their bank.

Selling a car in today's market requires that you be mindful of gasoline costs. If your car gets good mileage, that's a selling point. If not, factor that in to your pricing.

Once you have established what you want for your car and before you place your ad, get that vehicle as clean and good looking as possible. Thoroughly clean and vacuum the vehicle. Check to be sure oil and water levels are topped off and that all your turn signals, brake lights and the like are in good working order. Finally, if you smoke, clean out the ashtray and hang a freshener over the mirror! Non-smokers are turned off by cigarette odors. Selling a car can be as easy as you make it. Price it right. Both you and the new owner walk away happy!
