The Eagles and Hawks That Make Copywriting Soar PDF VersionPrinter Friendly Version

Great writing, specifically great copywritng, is an art as well as a science. See how art and science are interwoven in this article....

Great copywritng, copy that is enticing, is a scientific endevour as well as an artful goround. The reason I point this out is that art is the persuasion or convincing someone to purchase something or click here or there for more info and the science part is the measurement that follows in number of hits and downloads or purchase.

Have you come across the artfulness of communications and marketing in your reading? This is a most powerful method to grow your business. You will want to look at how this works for your own use. Writing engaging copy is not as easy as it may seem. You can tell from the numerous quotes an author places into his piece that the author has a writer's sensibility: his wide-ranging references to other authors and people of ideas will stand out.

The writer also dispenses good suggestions throughout, emphasizing a diverse background and diverse experiences to help tell copywriting newbies and reminding copywriting novices that being effective ("words drive the sale") is more important than being creative.

One excellent copywriter, Taylor, includes helpful sections such as a "day in the life," a contrived, but pragmatic landscape where you imagine a day in the life of a usual consumer in your targeted market so you can learn how they operate and how to best get to them. Also useful is a creative brief she develops for a fictional company called "guac-n-rock" guacamole which presents a useful example to company owners seeking to reach their target audience.

Although her attention is drawn to writing advertising copy for internet media, she shows us how to write for different kinds of media and various types of ad web copy such as e-mail marketing. Taylor even includes a section on blogging and new media that describes how incorporating blogs into a business allows you to have an interactive site that makes a connection with consumers on a more one-to one level. While her book does contain some extraneous material (the section on "creative aerobics" can probably be tossed) her overall message is consistent and newbie copywriters or small business owners should find it valuable.

Writing engaging copy is more important than ever in these highly competitive times. Regardless if you do copy for print mediaor online use the key point they state is so true:. "whether reading online or offline sales messages, there's no difference in peoples behavior. When people are told an "offer ends this Tuesday, buy now" they act immediately, regardless of whether they're being told to in print media or online. You must tell the reader what to do next. Don't assume anything, tell them what to do and they will normally do it.Writing good copy isso important to business sucess, yet few people (including myself) know how to do it well.

Writing decent copy is the biggest stumbling block I seem to have. Whenever I sit down to try to write some, I draw a complete blank and end up creating the usual bullets of features, benefits etc...and if my time permits, I let it sit overnight, then rework it to death. I'm a webmaster trying to be a good writer, and I am finding my logical mind interferes quite a bit with the process. Perhaps I should frequent a Coffee Shop when I sit to write great copy. Having some good coffee with my copy just might make me a great writer!
