How to Write Funny Wedding Toasts PDF VersionPrinter Friendly Version

It not easy writing funny wedding toasts but find out some simple steps to help you out....

As a veteran of many different weddings, I feel like I have witnessed a big spectrum of toasts. Some have been really memorable, full of laughter and tears in the same two minute span. Some have been funny, but somewhat inappropriate. Some have been just plain terrible. I recently gave a toast at my best friends wedding, and I was hoping to enter that first category. Here are some tips I followed when I pieced together my funny wedding toasts.

Regardless of how uncomfortable you may be standing up in front of a group of strangers, you need to realize that this is not all about you. You are up there to support your best friend or family member on the most important day of their life and you want to do all you can to add to the memories of the day. You need to push your inhibitions to the side and come up with a toast to convey the importance of the day as well as just how special you feel the couple is. Here's a few pointers to help you with your task.

If you aren't a drinker, then just skip this part. For those who like to enjoy a spirit every now and then, please try to limit your intake until after you've given your funny wedding toast. You want to have your "A" Game when you're standing in front of everyone and a clear head will make a world of difference when it's time to preform.

You would be amazed at how many people attempt to give their toasts off the cuff. This is a recipe for disaster. There's nothing like standing up in front of a group of strangers without a clue about what you're about to say. It's a rare breed how would be able to pull this one off.

If you want to commit your toast to memory, good luck to you. Standing up in front of everyone can be intimidating enough and the last thing you want to do is draw a blank at this special moment. I prefer to read my toast off a piece of paper, and it has no effect on the outcome of the speech. I've yet to have someone come up to me and say nice toast, but it's a shame you didn't have it memorized.

Refrain from using profanity at all costs. While your at it, you may want to steer clear of any discussion that may be a little too open sexually. You need to keep in mind that there are usually younger children involved in wedding parties and you'll be amazed at how much they actually pick up. The older generation (grandparents and great aunts and uncles) don't view humor exactly the way that people in their early 20's do.

We all love to hear the stories of how inept, awkward, clumsy our friends were at different points in their lives and it shows the crowd how much we appreciate these friendships but pointing out some of the goofy things we did together previously. These are the stories that will draw the most laughs, and people love to hear different stories about the couple on display. Remember to keep it "PG" and follow the tip we listed above.

Writing funny wedding toasts is not an easy task to undertake, but I can tell you from personal experience how rewarding it can be when you get it right. What a great feeling it is to have people coming up to you throughout the evening and congratulating you on how well you did.
