Really Simple Syndication is abbreviated as RSS. It is considered as a family of Web feed format. In the recent years, the online website use RSS news feed in order to enhance the traffic on their websites. RSS syndication is aimed to share the headlines and the web content. Really Simple Syndication was introduced in 1997 by UserLand as a lightweight XML format. Netscape also used it after its release in 1997.
The three primary purposes of the RSS syndication include collection of information, distribution of the updates and increasing the traffic of users on the website. In addition, it is also considered very important for the additional content distribution services. The use of XML grammar in RSS syntax is important because it is a set of HTML like tags.
RSS syndication is important because it facilitates the updates of work like videos, audios, news headlines and the blog entries. The format of RSS is kept standardized in the format of an RSS document. This document is also called as feed, web feed or a channel. This document has the metadata like publishing dates and the authorship with full or summarized text. The standardized format of the document facilitates the automatic syndication of the content. The great benefit of RSS syndication goes to the readers because they gets continuous timely updates after getting the subscriptions.
RSS reader, feed reader or an aggregator is software which is used for reading RSS feeds. The software can be connected with the web based, desktop based or mobile based devices. The purpose of keeping the standardized XML file format is that it allows the publisher to publish the information for once and then it can be used for many programs.
The user can get the subscription by using the feeds URL. For the creation of the data formats, the RSS syndication uses the XML formats. The RSS syndication formats were first introduced in March 1999. The popularity of RSS syndication increased between 2005 and 2006.
The modules are used in RSS syndication like in RSS syndication 2.0, three modules are used which are Ecommerce RSS 2.0 Module, Media RSS 2.0 Module and Open Search RSS 2.0 Module. These modules are created because their aim is to extend the basic XML schema. XML schema is considered important because it results in dynamic syndication of the content.
Therefore, by standardizing the format, the diversity can be focused. On the other hand, it also inhibits the modification of the core RSS specification. Moreover, the static as well as the dynamic information is given in the RSS text file. Hence, we can say that RSS syndication really provides an efficient way of updating readers.
