LANDesk is a division of Avocent Corp. that makes available security management, systems management, asset management, service desk and process management tools and solutions to business groups and organizations. This is a company that has a worldwide distribution network and having been established in 1985, it's also among the oldest companies providing these types of tools and services.

The company originally began as “LAN Systems”. However; in 1991 the company formerly known as LAN Systems was acquired by Intel and it was at that time that the name LANDesk was adopted. LANDesk remained a division of Intel until the year 2002, when it was established as a separate and distinct business entity, with its own headquarters near Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Still yet, more changes were to come in 2006. That was when the company was acquired by Avocent for the price of $416,000,000. Then again, even more substantial changes were in the works in 2008. This is the year that Avocent acquired an information technology security management vendor by the name of “Touch paper” to merge with LANDesk.

LANDesk distributes software via partners and also directly and as previously stated, has a worldwide distribution network that includes research & development centers and district offices in Britain, Mexico, Italy, Japan, Germany, Ireland, China, France and Brazil. The company also maintains an employee base in some eighteen countries.
