Open Question: Who thinks a 5 year old is too young for a tutor?
My daughter is only slightly under average in her class and the teacher says she has no worries bout her abilities at all but Lucy is really motivated to learn and at home she wants to play schools all the time and for me to be the teacher. I don't know the techniques they use at school as my daughter keeps telling me! The school won't give me any detailed information, they simply don't have the time and my requests for books or websites which would show me the current teaching methods just brings me the answer to just play and read and draw with her. I do! Lots!
She is in a class for children who need extra help with literacy so it would be great if I could play schools using the right techniques. She'd be learning whilst playing and spending time with me. Win win win, I'd have thought. My friend recommended me a tutor who specialises in reception and year one literacy and could identify the parts she has trouble with and suggest some games we could play around that. I asked the teacher what she thought and she has said she feels she's too young and the best thing I can do for her is just give her my time. We do play for an hour after school and read for half an hour before bed and on saturdays we spend all afternoon doing something fun. I think the teacher thinks I'm putting too much pressure on her but it is she who wants to do learning type play all the time and I'd just like to make the most of that. She is quite confident about her abilities. We always tell her how clever she is. What do parents and teachers think I should do?

How fast do you currently type? Have you already mastered touch typing? Could you benefit from a typing tutor? If you don't know, you should take a couple of minutes and find out. Here's what you do. Find any document around the house and place it in a comfortable position near your computer. Set a timer for three minutes. When the timer starts, you start typing. Don't stop until the timer stops.
Now let's check your speed. Count up all of the words you typed but subtract any that aren't spelled correctly. Divide that number by three, and you'll have your typing speed. If you're around 50 words per minute (wpm), you might be able to get a job in an office but if you want to be successful in the modern world you'll want to be much faster. And to boost those rates you need improve your speed, possibly with the help of a typing tutor.
Understanding Touch Typing
Most of the typing tutor programs available are going to focus on something called "touch typing." This is the ability to move your fingers across the keyboard, enter letters and numbers without even having to look at the keyboard, and maintain a high level of accuracy while doing so. This is obviously very different than the hunt and peck method where your eyes have to be looking for every key and only one or two of your fingers is hitting the keys.
With this type of typing, you'll be able to easily increase your speed. If you think you can type fast now, wait until you see how fast you are after completing a typing tutor course.
Why Type Fast?
A typing tutor, such as SOLO Typing Tutor, is designed to help you increase your speed while you work at your own keyboard in the privacy and convenience of your own home. You can work at your own pace and can practice as much as you want. These are huge advantages over taking a traditional offline typing class.
But why should you type faster?
As you probably already know, the Internet has made written communication skills mandatory for success. If you can't write an email or maintain a blog, your success options are going to be more limited, even at a personal level. So much of our interpersonal communication is done online through typing that without strong skills you might be missing out on some great conversations through instant messaging, chat rooms, emails, message boards, articles, Twitter posts, and more.
Solo Typing Tutor is able to give you the skills you need to type faster so you can communicate more effectively online. Faster typing will also assist you in working faster. Do you need to write a blog post? Imagine being able to type one at 90 wpm instead of 45 wpm or 70 wpm instead of 35 wpm. You can literally do twice as much typing in the same amount of time. And time is money in today's world.
However, the program also provides additional benefits for people who are already pleased with their typing speeds. The lessons can help improve your accuracy. Many people can type lightning fast but are slowed down because of the number of errors the finished product contains. By learning how to type with greater accuracy, you'll be making your typing more efficient and you'll actually be typing faster because you won't be delayed by errors.
With this typing tutor program, you'll also learn how to type more safely. While typing may not seem dangerous, it can lead to eye strain and repetitive stress injuries. As with any work-related injuries, learning some useful practices to minimize the strain on your body while you're typing can minimize the risks of these problems. The program can teach you these practices.
Whether you're communicating for business or personal reasons (or both), improving your touch typing ability with a typing tutor is a smart move. SOLO Typing Tutor can assist you in achieving this goal while also boosting your accuracy and reducing your risks of typing-related injuries.
