Do You Have Goods In Transit?

With this activity often comes the need to transport goods to and from farms in order to reach their final destination, for example the movement of potatoes from the field to the farm. What many businesses may not realise is the potential gap in their property insurance cover if they have not arranged Goods in Transit cover.
Whether it is farmers produce and supplies or other business goods, insurance whilst on the policyholders' premises is generally in place. However, cover may not extend to insure such property when it is moved away from the premises even though the risk of loss or damage remains with the owner. As with all farmers insurance, make sure you read your policy to ensure you have a full understanding of the cover that you have in place.
For many businesses moving goods to and from their premises is a necessity, so they will need to establish the extent to which they wish to protect themselves against loss or damage.
Some businesses move goods for others; establishing who is responsible for loss or damage to such goods at the outset of the contract will determine the insurance implications. It is much better to know where liability for loss or damage rests before an incident occurs rather than get involved in a potentially costly dispute afterwards.
