You may have been hit with a foreclosure notice or know that one is about to come. All hope is not lost if you act quickly. Even if your income is severely reduced or has plunged to 0, there are methods that you can use to stop the bank dead in their tracks.

Human nature is to put things off and do little or no work if we can get away with it and be fine. When it comes to foreclosure, you have to act quickly. You don't necessarily have to act fast to come up with your current loan amount in cash, you just have to act fast with a plan. A plan can include negotiating a reduced payment, refinancing into a new loan, or stopping all payments for a considerable amount of time.
The first options that you want to look at are stopping the process or significantly delaying the foreclosure process. If you live in a progressive state, like the states of New England, you probably have some very strong consumer protections built into your system. If you live in an area of the country that is known for it's tough as nails mentality, then you are probably not going to get much help from the state.
Regardless of where you live, most all lenders have what is known as deferment and forbearance. These are options that are either going to stop your payments completely or reduced them. They may even have income contingent plans that are based on a percentage of your current income. If your current income is 0, then you are going to have to go into some type of grace period. Your primary goal should be to significantly stall the process of foreclosure until you reduce the payment or save enough to continue to make full payments. Whatever you do, do not wait or put off researching. When people procrastinate, that is when they lose their house. You can win this fight if you take action. It is isn't hard to win, the banks just want you to think that it is.
