The psychology of eating less while exercising more PDF VersionPrinter Friendly Version

The one more repetition five less calorie approach is best for the long haul....

If one is trying to lose weight, the best thing is to focus on doing just that. Too many think only in terms of the results (number of pounds lost) and therefore only look at the scale. This is too deflating to the ego.

Weight loss takes a long time. Some professionals even believe that it is impossible by standard means in a small percentage of instances, no matter how much a person sacrifices. Possibly this is true, if genetics plays as much of a role as we are beginning to believe. These people need special procedures and drugs.

Nevertheless, most people are able toby the more common means. They are actually able to lose weight if they stay at it long enough. That is the key. Staying with it for the long haul, meaning at least six months; and then turning over a new leaf by refusing to return to old eating and sedentary living habits.

Possibly this type of dedication is harder today than it was back in the sixties. During that period in time, there were far less immediate gratification sources. Certainly they were there, but it was not as much of an expected thing as it is today.

This mindset prevailed because there was much slower communication, and, of course. no inter net. While that does not directly affect one's diet, the thinking does. Everything in general is just supposed to take less time nowadays. Therefore, should as well. At least that is how our thinking can go.

Fat burner supplements seem to address this mentality. They escalate the bodily processes to reducemore quickly. For a relatively small group, these are a great help. But for most they are an invitation into skepticism and disregard. Somehow, too much alteration of body chemistry even if done by an over the counter herb or drug is just too much of a risk for most people.

Consequently, most of us are forced back into the tried and true method of eating less and exercising more. To some this seems just too old fashioned to have any chance of success. But, to a larger number of others it can create an optimistic mindset  which will insure eventual success. No matter how sophisticated we become, those feelings are the best ones to insure ongoing persistence and dedication. These are the most crucial in insuring the eventual victory at the losing game.

What one first needs to do, then, is to commit to one more repetition and one less calorie each and every day. Withholding any type of critical evaluation for at least forty five days might then become most prudent relative to continued long term involvement in a more healthy lifestyle.
