Do You Want a Tattoo? Be Careful

Having a tattoo has always been associated with individuality, combined with a slightly rebellious character. However, there are some risks involved. You need to be aware of these, and take the necessary precautions. The precautions themselves are simple. The consequences of not taking them are not.
Firstly, try to find out more about the studio or person applying the tattoo. Is it possible to contact a few references? How long have they been in business? You may also want to find out more about any refund policy, as well as their policy concerning fixing imperfect tattoos. Professional studios are usually willing to fix any mistakes free of charge, and willing to negotiate a refund if you really have reason not to be happy with the end result.
The primary concern with the process itself is one of hygiene. Keep in mind that the process utilizes a needle that pierces the skin multiple times. Since your skin is your first line of defense against bacterial infections, any piercing is an opportunity for potential infection. Ask about the steps taken to prevent infection, and decide for yourself if you think it is sufficient. You should be able to see for yourself if the environment is clean. In most cases, it is pretty obvious if the staff work in unclean surroundings, or do not pay attention to detail.
If something goes wrong and you do develop excessive swelling and redness around the tattoo area, please visit a doctor immediately. If it is an infection, it can be cured by medication if it is noted in time. If you are unsure, rather play it safe. The sooner any infection is noted and treated, the easier it will be to deal with it. if it is not stopped in time, it may get out of hand, and it could even land you in hospital.
Lastly, take some time to ponder the design you want. In the past, many people used to tattoo the name or face of a loved one on their bodies, only to have it become a burden if the relationship came to an end. Do not choose any design you may not be comfortable with in ten or twenty years from now. Tattoo removal is expensive, and if you cannot afford to have it removed, you will be stuck with the unwanted design.
This does not mean that you should not get a tattoo. Your personal choice of tattoo can still add to your individuality, and even be the object of admiration. It does, however, mean that you have to take care, and do your homework every step of the way. Only once the skin around the tattoo has healed, can you relax.
