Most men would like to simply ignore the fact that their prostate must be checked on a regular basis especially once they reach a certain age. Making sure that your prostate is in good condition is the only way you can avoid severe medical conditions such as an enlarged prostate or in the worst case scenario, prostate cancer.

Even if you are not having any type of symptoms such as difficulty urinating or urinating frequently or not having a steady flow, it is best to have your prostate checked at least on a yearly basis so as to catch any problems before they become a serious medical condition. There is no definitive answer whether getting a regular prostate exam can save lives, but with new and improved treatments it may help to avoid some very serious complications.

It is said by the National Cancer Institute that prostate cancer is one of the more common forms of cancer aside from skin cancer which with men suffer and is the second cause of death in men relating to cancer. There is much debate on whether regular screening can help to avoid prostate cancer though there are many in the medical field that feel that any man over the age of 50 should have a regular screening on a yearly basis.

What it comes down to is your personal preference and whether you feel the need to have a prostate screening. If you have a history of prostate problems or cancer in your family then it can do no harm to have a yearly prostate screening so that you can have peace of mind.
