Bathroom Trends PDF VersionPrinter Friendly Version

Bathroom trends change from month to month, let alone year to year, therefore it can sometimes be difficult staying in touch with the latest trends. With 2009 having come and gone we have been blessed with a number of innovative trends that have made us scratch our heads at the opportunities available for the bathroom.

The best of 2009 have been listed in this article to give you an overview of what good looks like.

The Natural Look

Au Natural has always been a trendy approach and especially trendy in 2009. Many of the latest bathroom designs look to use a number of natural materials to bring the bathroom to life in the form of stone floors, hardwood flooring etc. White remained an integral colour in the bathroom which is lucky as we all fear the day the avocado and peach bathroom suite comes back into fashion.

The Zen Look

The bathroom image is moving more away from a place to wash and more towards a place to unwind, providing you with your own personal space with which to relax and soak your troubles away. This has also been an image consistent with many leading manufacturers in their marketing and bathroom styling. Many consumers chose to pattern their bathrooms after the Zen peacefulness of a spa retreat. To achieve a Zen look, choose just a few contrasting natural materials encompassing wood, stone and metal, the key to a truly meditative bathroom is balance and simplicity.

Multimedia in the Bathroom

Who would have thought of introducing televisions into the bathroom? 2009 saw the introduction of the waterproof television being installed on or near bathroom mirrors. The trendiest homeowners placed televisions behind the vanity mirror and installed speaker systems in the shower. Should you wish to follow suit without the expense then you could always invest in a radio shower and whilst not as trendy, does the same thing.

Luxury Showers

Luxurious showers are growing in popularity, with walk in showers, steam cabins, and an array of massaging jets showing up in trendy bathrooms. For the real luxurious some houses even have in built saunas into the showering enclosure. The most luxurious showers include aromatherapy, chromatherapy, and built-in sound systems leaving you with just one question, why would you ever want to get out? It's also trendy to install luxury showers with distinctive features—corner showers with dramatic shapes, rainshower effects showers and striking enclosure tiling were all highly popular in 2009.

Luxury Baths

Baths are a fantastic place to relax in, whether with a book and a glass of wine or your eyes closed listening to your favourite Newton Faulkner album but there is more to a bath than just a bath. Whirlpool baths have always been popular, but in 2009 homeowners had a vast array of choices with multi jets, coloured LED lighting and even some big enough for two people with your headrest. The Asian inspired soaking tubs have also seen an increase in popularity, heavily advertised in the various home design magazines but one to opt for where space in issue since the emphasis is on depth over length.

Attention to Comfort

The finishing touches to a bathroom have been extremely important, right to the little detail of a heated towel rail or even a toilet roll holder, with sales of bathroom accessories proving very fruitful.

Washbasins

Gone are the days of the standard washbasin and pedestal combo now with number of shapes and designs to opt for from the standard to the cubed to the rounded and not to mention the variety of materials being used to produce these sinks. Materials now include glass and stone as well as ceramics.

Green Bathrooms

Going Green, saving water, saving the environment. All 3 of these have been very popular in a bid to help ourselves and help the environment simultaneously. Many suppliers now produce recycled bathroom suite products to reduce their own carbon foot prints whilst the big saver when it comes to water is showering. There are numerous water saving showers on the market with prices starting from as little as £20 for a water saving handset, or you could just opt for a brand new water saving shower. Whilst they may be saving you money from reduced water consumption, the style of the shower is not compromised.
