Fibromyalgia & Memory Foam Mattresses PDF VersionPrinter Friendly Version

Due to their unique construction, memory foam mattresses are able to offer sleepers certain benefits that coil spring mattresses cannot. Many people find that these benefits also include helping to reduce pain symptoms that often occur when sleeping on a coil spring mattress. Many consumers with different medical conditions that produce chronic pain find their pain reduced or even eliminated when sleeping on a memory foam mattress. One of these medical problems producing chronic pain, fibromyalgia, can often find relief from a memory foam mattress.

Fibromyalgia causes pain in different parts of the body. When sleeping on a coil spring mattress, this pain is most often exacerbated by the mattress. The coil springs push back on your bed when you lie upon them. Pressure points are created causing further pain to parts of the body that are painful already. People with fibromyalgia find that they do not get a restful night's sleep when sleeping on a coil spring mattress.

Memory foam mattresses are a better choice for those afflicted with fibromyalgia. Coil springs are not used in the design of the memory foam mattress. Rather the major component of the memory foam mattress is of course memory foam. Instead of pushing back on the person's body, the memory foam mattress conforms to their body. The human body does not have a consistent temperature throughout its length. Areas of pain on the body are typically warmer. Memory foam becomes softer as a person's temperature increases. Therefore for those with fibromyalgia this is ideal as their painful areas will be cradle by a memory foam mattress not pushed back on by a coil spring mattress. They are able to get a more restful night of sleep on a memory foam mattress.

People sleeping on a memory foam mattress also find that they are able to keep warmer at night. This is another terrific benefit of the memory foam mattress for fibromyalgia patients. The warmth is therapeutic. The memory foam mattress contours your body. This exposes less skin keeping it wrapped in the mattress. This in turn keeps you warmer and lessens your pain.
