A very common home design accessory is the wall sconce. They are basic, yet can bring lots of refinement to any space of your choosing. They are truly one of my preferred kinds of home decor accessories because I am a minimalist. Properly placed wall sconces can altogether replace big floor lamps, free up lots of space, while yet providing sufficient lighting.

However the Main phrase to pay attention to is "strategically positioned." Many people simply aren't aware where and how to place them, so they aren't getting the full benefit of their sconces.

So let me give you some pointers on how to put up wall sconce lighting, the proper way.

I recommend that you place your wall sconce lighting at or above head level. Basically, a low hanging sconce looks weird. Also, Sconces which are too low make the space appear smaller. As a general rule of thumb, you should place your wall sconce lighting about 6 feet above the ground.

Sconces should be used to bring more attention to focal points of your room. They themselves should not be the major focal points of your room. For example, if you have a lovely looking time piece, sofa, archway, or whatever it may be, and you want people to notice it a little more, place one or two sconces in a well thought out arrangement next to it.

For halls and walkways, I recommend you put a sconce one quarter away from the start, and one quarter away from the end. When there is an unusually long distance, consider positioning one right in the center. When you have a winding hallway, put a sconce on each pivot point.
