Moving storage makes it tremendously easy to move house, or simply store your possessions. However, packing moving storage isnt the same as packing a moving van. If this is your first time packing a storage pod, read on to find out about the best way to go about it.
When packing a moving van, you want the heaviest items to be concentrated toward the cab to make the van more manageable and to reduce the chance that heavy items will crush lighter items. However, moving storage does not have a front or a back. Over the course of transport, it could be turned in any direction and placed anywhere in the moving truck or storage unit. To make moving storage safer and easier to move, pack it so that the weight is evenly distributed across the bottom of the container. Put the heaviest items on the bottom and the lightest items on the top to make the storage container more stable.
Fill in every empty space you can find, even the smallest crannies. A little room to shake can add up to big damage. Packing peanuts are useful in boxes, but not loose in the storage pod. If you do not have enough to fill the entire pod, packing peanuts tend to settle to the bottom of the pod, leaving your boxes with space between them. Instead, use towels, blankets, pillows, and other soft, washable furnishings. Each time you think you have fully packed the storage pod, try to move the boxes. If they shift at all, work in more padding.
If the moving storage container is large enough, you may be able to use rope to secure your belongings instead. Use the arrangement of the eyehooks in the storage pod as a guide to mentally section off the pod, then fill in one section at a time completely. Lash it down, then fill the next section. Do not be stingy with the rope! Also practice knots beforehand so you are certain that your knots will not slip. Otherwise, you could crack the container open at the end of the journey to discover that the ropes worked loose and all your things are in a jumble.
As you pack the moving storage, remember to concentrate the weight on the bottom, not at the front. Make the contents of the unit completely immobile with padding, or get the same effect by roping it down. If you follow these guidelines, your belongings will arrive at their destination undamaged. Enjoy the convenience of using moving storage!
