The Dangers Of ID Theft

It is a fascinating if not outright sad truth that some very able minds would rather use their ability to steal as opposed to being productive. It is not necessarily that it is easier to take something from someone else than to work for it yourself, there are just some people who find it challenging and rewarding in a twisted way. For some the drive is to challenge the best security that can be created just to show they can break in, for others it is simply for money. Getting to know everything you can about protection identity theft is an effective 1st step toward securing your personal information.
With the advent of the digital era, things stepped up to an even more sinister level. Now crimes can be committed from anywhere in the world and you can become a victim without ever even knowing it or discovering it for a considerable period of time. Far from the Hollywood version where fun loving likable people commit victimless crimes against the establishment, people get hurt and can even lose more than money.
With the added convenience and accuracy of the internet and all things electronic came the additional risks associated with data control. Just as it is possible to execute unprecedented financial dealings over the computer, theft can be accomplished just as easily. The concern becomes who is responsible for protecting the data and pathways that criminals use to steal.
Part of the problem is that the devices we use are so complex that their internal workings are simply not knowable to most of us. We can use them but we do not really know what is going inside the device while our credit and debit cards are being scanned. To keep from holding up progress, we often allow our cards out of our grasp and sight, specifically in restaurants, trusting the information is protected.
In addition to the straightforward theft of funds from our account, there are other, more insidious and perhaps even more disastrous consequences to the theft of our identity data. News stories have outlined incidents where victims start receiving bills from hospitals for treatment, surgeries and even childbirth when the medical care was not received. In the case of the woman who was charged for the delivery of a baby, she still had to fight the hospital when it was obvious she had no child.
Once someone else has your identity, your accounts are an obvious concern but should not be the only ones. Your ability to make purchases can been affected as well as the interest rates you receive on credit cards and loans may be inflated. You may start getting calls from collection agencies, and unraveling those charges is extremely difficult because by then the protections afforded credit card purchasers is usually already gone.
