Learning how to slam dunk is actually an easy thing to do. However, you need to learn an important three steps before you can go out and dunk on everyone. Determination is the first and probably most important thing you need to learn. After you have learned how to use your determination to increase your vertical jump you need to know what the strength to weight ratio is and know why it is so important when it comes to jumping higher. The next thing you will need to learn is how to train your body to be able to jump higher. The truth is the body is built to jump high. I don't care if you have a 10 inch vertical jump right now, if you have legs you were meant to jump high. So, let's get started.

Determination is the first vital step to learning how to slam dunk. Without determination you can't do anything in life. Determination drives all the rest of your actions. If you are determined to jump higher then nothing can stop you.

The strength to weight ratio must be understood if you want to dunk. The strength to weight ratio is the difference between how strong you are and how much you weigh. For instance, if you can squat 150 pounds and you weigh 145 your strength to weight ratio is 150/145. This particular athlete has a 5 pound difference. Always remember the greater the difference the higher you will jump. If you take that same athlete and he can now squat 200 his strength to weight ration would be 200/145. He is guaranteed to jump higher! Bottom line, get strong.

So now that you know about determination and the strength to weight ratio, the next thing you need to learn is the best exercises to increase your vertical. If I could only choose one exercise to do for the rest of my life it would be the squat. The squat mimics a vertical jump and will allow you to apply max force.
