Open Question: How would you interpret this?
To save you a long story, I'm talking to this girl on MSN (which we've been doing for quite some time now) and things appear to be getting serious. But today she said something very odd, and I was wondering how you would interpret it. We were on the topic of sports, and she mentioned that her brother (who's a doctor) wasn't into sports. I made some comment alone the lines of 'doctors these days', at which she replied 'yea.. but he has been punished by God... it's different'. When I asked what she meant, she said that he was gay. Now I really don't know what to make of this. I mean, it appears to be a deliberate attack on gays, but could it just be a joke? Or perhaps she was scoffing at how some people perceive homosexuals. It's also important that you know that she is a) not religious in any way I can tell, and b) overall a very nice but shy person. Because of this, I find it hard to believe that she would harbour such hateful views towards gays (especially her brother), but her statement was pretty explicit. I haven't been able to glean any more info (I quickly changes subject; I didn't want to cause a confrontation), but I would like to know your opinion.
