Here are some things to look for in a baby pillow. Use a small pillow which is light in weight for the baby. This is so that the child does not suffer from heat and there is no chance of suffocation either. Another guideline is that the pillow should be free of decoration such as fringe or beads. This way, the baby cannot choke on anything attached to the pillow. When going for a baby pillow, choose baby friendly fabrics lie silk or light cotton. Feather pillows are known to cause an allergic reaction among some babies and it is best to avoid them. The best possible options are those baby pillows that have a removable cover, or are machine washable as a whole as this will help keep the pillows clean.
Testing the firmness of the baby pillow to avoid suffocation or sinking or breathlessness due to nose pressed against the hard to too soft surface of the pillow, is an ideal thing to do before deciding upon the pillow. Two years is the deemed age when you ought to teach the child to sleep using a pillow. There is a high chance of suffocation in earlier stages. It may be dangerous to use a baby pillow before the age of two because the baby may be suffocated by the pillow.
