Why Christ The Redeemer is one of the new 7 Wonders

Christ the Redeemer stands on the tip of Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park ignoring the Brazilian Capital, Rio de Janeiro. The statue of Jesus Christ is situated at the peak of 700m of the Corcovado Mountain. This statuette of Jesus Christ, embracing arms as if it is welcoming entire humanity is the most popular milestone in Brazil. A sign of Christianity, the statue has become an image for Rio and Brazil. The 38m tall statuette, the tallest in the world is built of metal, permanent solid and soapstone weighs 635 tones. Styled by Brazilian builder Heitor de Silva Costa and built by French sculptor Paul Landowski, it is one of the world's well recognized monuments. It took five years to create and inaugurated on October 12, 1931. It is now renowned as the new Seven Wonders of the World. In the era of 1850's, a catholic pastor, Pedro Maria Boss, adviced to create a statue of Jesus Christ on the top of the Corcovado Mountain. The financial assistance was requested from the Princess of Isabel to make a huge statuette of Lord Jesus Christ which was considered as a religious symbol and is recently recognized as a piece of new seven wonders of the world. Initially this idea was ignored and nobody thought to create this great religious structure, but later on in 1921, the figurine was finally created by the Catholic Circle of Rio, when the actual need and proposal for a huge landmark and a sacred memorial was seriously considered. Then was the problem of funds, as to who will finance for this great traditional and religious sculpture and to resolve this difficulty as well to gain a good publicity a group of people organized an occasion for about seven days by which a large sum of donation was collected hugely from the Brazilian Catholics. The people were also asked to sign if they were in favor of building the large figurine of Christ. Along with money and signatures, there were implications pouring in for the style of the statuette of Jesus Christ, some suggested that there must be a cross of Christ along with Jesus Christ's statuette, others had an idea to build an statue of Jesus holing the earth in his safe hands, all the implications were keenly worked on, but finally an idol of Jesus Christ with open arms was decided. With all the difficulties the figurine was ultimately built on the tip of 700m high Corcovado Mountain and recently is saluted as one of the seven wonders of the world. You can easily get to see this amazing wonder of the world by simply flying to the Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro and reserve a hotel well before time as Rio is a demanding city.
